Description
This project will examine the potential impact that the increasing number of infrastructure projects, focused on reacting to or mitigating for climate change, may have on the archaeological workforce in England. This will be undertaken through 2 stages: Stage 1 will focus on mapping current and planned climate change focused infrastructure projects and identifying the archaeological workforce requirements, roles, and skills needed for engagement with these initiatives; and analysing the potential workforce implications of this. Stage 2 will identify any current and anticipated training provision required for working on such projects; that is not delivered through existing standard archaeological workforce training (e.g. degree courses, apprenticeships) and make recommendations as to where there may be gaps that need to be filled. The project aims to produce a repeatable methodology for approximating workforce need for such projects, a comprehensive report and actionable guidance, directly supporting sector planning and the development of sustainable professional practice in line with Historic England’s strategic priorities.
