The purpose of this project is to increase the Institute’s sustainability (both environmental & financial), reduce carbon emissions and safeguard the steam supply to all buildings utilising steam generated at Pirbright.
This will be achieved by a combination of the following three factors:
•	New steam main & condensate recovery system to steam users currently served by the end of life Western Boiler House.
•	Removal of inefficient and end of life Western Boiler house & increasing load on the currently underutilised, efficient, EC1 steam generation plant by 450kWh (585 kg/hr).
•	Upgrading 2 of 4 EC1 steam boilers with burners capable of 10:1 turndown ratio to enable more efficient operation at low production rates during summer months.
Contract Scope
The contract is for a single supplier to act as the Principal Contractor and complete all works as follows:
•	Supporting the Stage 4 design with client nominated designer and Project Manager
•	Supply and Installation of EC1 steam boiler burners (x2).
•	Steam connection & packaged steam – LTHW interface to Engineering workshop
•	Enabling works for new steam & condensate return connections located on EC1 steam distribution and WBH.
•	Supply and installation of steam and condensate equipment.
•	Facilitate installation & commissioning of EC1 boiler burner replacements.
•	Supply and installation of new steam connection & condensate return including all required equipment.
•	Deliver a phased changeover of steam delivery from the WBH to the newly installed connection fed from EC1.
•	Decommission, removal and disposal of WBH and associated redundant equipment.
•	Disconnection and isolation of gas, compressed air and mains water.
•	Commissioning and handover including Project Information Folder (PIF) is provided to the client Project Manager.

4855/AMRC/GM/2025 Kiln Modification for Hydrogen / Natural Gas Mix R2

4855/AMRC/GM/2025 Kiln Modification for Hydrogen / Natural Gas Mix The University of Sheffield wishes to invite tenders for a Kiln Modification for Hydrogen / Natural Gas Mix on behalf of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, Castings Group at Catcliffe, South Yorkshire. Scope of Requirement The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) wishes to convert its existing kiln from natural gas to a natural gas and hydrogen blend. Sustainable Manufacturing is a core theme within the AMRC’s Technology Strategy and part of that theme is to decarbonise our own operations and to act as a demonstrator and experimental test bed for UK manufacturers looking to decarbonise their own operations. AMRC Castings are investing in pyrolysis equipment to supply our mould firing kiln with decarbonised natural gas (i.e. hydrogen / natural gas blend). This is being tendered in parallel with this tender process. The furnace is a 656kW kiln used for firing the ceramic shells used for investment casting. This will need modification/upgrading to be capable of operating with different blends of hydrogen and natural gas. It is imperative that the conversion of our furnace includes interaction with the control system of the decarburisation equipment to comply with H&S requirements for emergency situations. Tender Process and Documentation: This procurement is an EU open procedure conducted in accordance with the Procurement ACT 2023. The ITT can be downloaded by registering and expressing your interest on the University`s e-tendering system https://in-tendhost.co.uk/Sheffield If you have any questions or comments in relation to this tender they must be submitted via the In-tend System, this can be accessed at https://in-tendhost.co.uk/Sheffield Closing date for the tender return is on November 11, 2025 at 12 noon (UK time).

Design Excellence Panel

Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), is committed to delivering high-quality, inclusive, and sustainable transport infrastructure that aligns with the region’s strategic objectives. Recognising the critical role of design in shaping user experience, safety, and long-term value, TfWM is establishing a Design Excellence Panel as a key mechanism to embed design thinking from the outset of project development. The Panel will act as a critical friend to project teams, offering independent, expert advice at key stages of the project lifecycle. It will support the delivery of TfWM’s Local Transport Plan and its six (6) Big Moves, ensuring that all schemes, whether rail, bus, tram, or active travel, are functional, inclusive, and contextually responsive. The Panel will champion a co-design approach, fostering collaboration across disciplines and with communities to create places that are accessible, safe, welcoming and inclusive for all. The Design Excellence Panel will operate initially under a three-year programme, with periodic reviews to ensure its continued relevance and impact. Workshops will be held bi-monthly, with flexibility to increase frequency based on project demand. Site visits will be arranged as required to support a ‘no site boundary’ approach—encouraging consideration of wider spatial and social context. The Panel will consist of approximately twenty (20) individuals (members) drawn from a diverse range of disciplines, including: • Architecture • Landscape Architecture • Inclusive Design • Heritage and Conservation • Urban Planning • Civil and Structural Engineering • Public Health • Sustainability • Access Consultancy • Place Curation • The Arts Panel members must either live in or have demonstrable experience working within the West Midlands, ensuring a strong understanding of local context and community needs. The Panel will: • Provide design assurance aligned with TfWM’s strategic goals • Champion inclusive, safe and sustainable design • Support the development of Design Guides • Promote cross-disciplinary collaboration and knowledge-sharing • Contribute to post-occupancy evaluations and continuous improvement The Panel will not: • Override statutory or technical standards • Make decisions on budgets or procurement • Enforce recommendations—these remain advisory
