Tenders are being sought for repairs to a damaged spire of a Victorian Cemetery Chapel. Suspected corrosion of embedded metalwork has occurred in the masonry supporting the spire. The embedded ties and rods are to be replaced with stainless steel and the stonework is to be repaired using indent repairs and new stonework as appropriate. In order to access the stonework for repair it will be necessary to lift or remove the tiled timber spire construction temporarily.

Remedial Repair Works to Eastern Boundary Wall at St Mary's Closed Churchyard, Henley

South Oxfordshire District Council require a building Contractor, experienced in works to historic or listed structures, to carry out remedial repairs, reinforcement and localised re-pointing works to the eastern retaining boundary wall at St Mary's Churchyard, Henley-on-Thames. The wall is developing structural issues as a result of age, load retention and tree root penetration. The wall forms the boundary between the churchyard and the Relais Hotel, to the east of the churchyard. The wall is approximately 22m long and 4.3m tall along its length, with a retained height of 3.1m. The height of the wall above the level of the ground in the churchyard, is approximately 1.2m. The wall is predominantly constructed of brick and flint media, with some infill timber and brick panels, with a plain tile and brick coping. The wall is Grade II listed. Contractors with demonstrable experience in carrying out heritage works, those experienced in brick and flint restoration, or those who carry a relevant heritage construction accreditation (i.e. S.P.A.B, IHBC, NFB Heritage Approved Contractor), are encouraged to tender for this opportunity. The majority of the works need to be carried out from the courtyard of the Relais Hotel, which abuts the western elevation of the wall. The remedial works briefly entail: Partial demolition (and reinstatement) of brick planter to enable installation of concrete foundation pads and 4no. buttresses Replacement of loose, blown mortar, brick and flint Removal of medieval wooden beams, infilling with brick / flint Localised repointing works to both sides of the wall Partial demolition and reinstatement of a small section of the top of the wall, from the churchyard side For full structural survey, photographs, specification / schedule of works and technical drawings, please see tender pack documents
