Description

The Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) is a significant infrastructure project aimed at addressing congestion and pollution issues at the Dartford Crossing, the only road crossing of the River Thames east of London. The project involves the construction of twin bore tunnels and a dual carriageway linking the M25 at Junctions 28 and 30 to the A2, east of Gravesend. This opportunity focuses on the Kent Roads Phase 4 Ground Investigation.

Scope of Works

The project requires comprehensive ground investigation activities, including geotechnical and environmental sampling, testing, and analysis. These will involve a range of methodologies such as cable percussion drilling, rotary coring, dynamic sampling, trial pits, cone penetration testing, and pavement coring. The work will also include groundwater and gas monitoring over a specified duration post-fieldwork.

Key Responsibilities
•	All activities will be supervised by Skanska and Mott MacDonald, with a nominated Site Agent responsible for the fieldwork's technical direction and quality.
•	A logging supervisor will ensure consistency in geotechnical and environmental sampling, testing, and reporting, adhering to relevant standards and project-specific requirements.
•	Personnel must have relevant qualifications and experience, including BDA or NVQ certifications for drilling and engineering professionals.
Specifications and Standards
•	Work will be performed under BS EN 1997-2:2007, Eurocode 7, and other related standards, ensuring high-quality geotechnical data and testing.
•	The contractor must implement a quality management system aligned with ISO 9001:2024, ISO 14001:2024, and ISO 45001:2024.
•	Cores and samples will be logged and described following standards such as BS 5930:2015, BS EN ISO 14688, and BS EN ISO 14689.
•	Data management will follow BS 8574:2014 to ensure precise and secure handling of geotechnical information.
Monitoring and Reporting
•	Groundwater and gas monitoring installations will be set up as per specifications. Readings will be taken during fieldwork and for up to 12 months post-fieldwork, with data delivered in AGS and Excel formats.
•	Monthly groundwater sampling will continue for six months after installations are completed.
General Requirements
•	Day shifts for off-road works and night closures for on-road activities.
•	Skilled and experienced supervisory staff are required to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
•	All personnel and methods are subject to approval by the Investigation Supervisor.
