The purpose of this competition for Lot 2 "Family Learning - supporting parents with children's schoolwork" is to invite bids to create and deliver training provision for parents wanting to increase their numeracy skills in order to help their children with schoolwork, and also help with their own progression. Provision should enhance and scale up the family learning offer in Essex, whilst providing opportunities for parents to learn some valuable skills for life too. Proposed curriculums for this provision should directly link to the current Mathematics curriculum as part of the National Curriculum for pupils in Key Stage 1 and/or Key Stage 2. Eligible target learners are parents and carers 19+ who have not previously attained a GCSE Grade 4/C or higher maths qualification and would like to enhance their knowledge. Learners will also have the opportunity to specifically learn how to support their child's/children's learning in the broader subject area of Maths. It is the intention that the provision will be delivered in locations that are convenient and easily accessible for learners, such as schools, nurseries and community settings. Bidders will ensure that this is a safe and appropriate learning environment. Learning sessions will enable skills sharing through creative intergenerational interactions and reflective learning and encourage increased understanding between individuals of different age groups. Aligned to family learning, the offer should also help to build confidence and provide appropriate careers education, information, advice and guidance to enable parents and carers to kickstart their own adult learning. Expected duration of training courses is between 6 to 10 guided learning hours.

CO0299 Multiply - Lot 4 - January 2024

The purpose of this competition for Lot 4 "Full qualifications" is to invite bids to create and deliver new intensive and flexible Maths Functional Skills Qualification courses targeted at adults 19+ who have not previously attained a GCSE Grade 4/C or Level 2 maths qualification. \r \r In line with the Department for Education definition, Functional Skills qualifications should enable the learner to develop confidence in using mathematics and provide a foundation for progression into employment or further technical education and develop skills for everyday life, where the skills gained can be applied to solve mathematical problems. The purpose of Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills Mathematics qualifications is to demonstrate a sound grasp of mathematical skills at the appropriate level and the ability to apply mathematical thinking effectively to solve problems successfully in the workplace and in other real-life situations. \r \r Experience shows that skills providers in general commit 100% of their adult education budget in the Autumn term or risk reductions in subsequent years. ECC will encourage successful bidders to link with other Multiply providers from other Lots over time to encourage bite size learners from other Lots to progress to full qualifications throughout the year, particularly outside of the Autumn term. \r \r Multiply in Essex is keen to fund additional Maths Functional Skills Qualifications at NVQ 1 and NVQ 2 under this Lot. This aims to help adults to progress in learning and employment. \r \r Consideration would be given to funding additional Maths Functional Skills Qualifications at Entry Levels 1, 2 and 3, although bidders would need to provide sufficient evidence to demonstrate how these courses would generate exceptional impact and align with Multiply outcomes.\r \r Functional Skills Qualifications should be accredited by a recognised national awarding body. To avoid duplication with Adult Education Budget (AEB) funding qualifications, these should begin throughout the academic year, rather than at the standard September start. \r \r Expected duration of training courses is up to 55 guided learning hours. \r \r Learners will be expected to sit a recognised examination at the end of the course to quantify their learning and provide them with certification as proof of their new skills. \r

These could include, but are not limited to, household budgeting, debt management, shopping and price comparison, food preparation, driving and travelling, DIY and home decorating, etc. The provision could be offered as stand-alone modules or bolted on to existing (vocational) courses or support. Eligible target learners are adults 19+ who have not previously attained a GCSE Grade 4/C or higher maths qualification. We would be interested in opportunities that are developed in partnership with community organisations and other partners in Essex and aimed at engaging hardest-to-reach groups, e.g. unemployed or economically inactive people, people on low incomes, care leavers, people who are in or have recently been released from prison. Expected duration of training courses is between 6 to 10 guided learning hours. Substantive learning (formal or informal) is defined as learning being delivered in two or more hours. All substantive learning will be recorded in the Individualised Learner Record (ILR) monthly. Suppliers will need to submit the ILR directly to the Department for Education via IDAMS. Where a supplier is unable to use IDAMS, it should submit via the ILR input tool. Suppliers will need to provide ECC with a copy of the ILR using an ECC template. Department for Education (DfE) has confirmed that Multiply training / learning will not be subject to Ofsted inspections in Year 2 (2023-2024).
