UK Biocentre’s laboratories in Milton Keynes are being used to analyse swab samples to support the national effort against the coronavirus pandemic. They are one of the three Lighthouse Labs – the biggest network of diagnostic testing facilities the UK has ever seen. Operations have expanded rapidly to analyse swab samples to determine whether COVID-19 is present, and capacity requirements are continuing to increase over time . We have repurposed existing laboratories and built new ones to provide the capacity required for such a significant undertaking. In order to achieve this level of testing. new temporary staff have been recruited, and this is expected to continue as the need for staff increases as capacity increases. To allow these staff to work at Biocentre laboratories in Milton Keynes on this project, UK Biocentre requires the provision of hotel accommodation.

UK Biocentre (UKBC) requires the provision of cleaning services at its facility located at [Unit 2-3 Bradbourne Drive, Java Park, Tilbrook in Milton Keynes]. The scope of cleaning services required includes cleaning of the following spaces: offices, kitchens, toilets, corridors and warehouses but specifically excludes the cleaning of laboratory spaces. Further detail is set out in the Specification which is provided as part of the procurement documents. The facility in Milton Keynes is an operational healthcare testing centre that is currently operating every day on a 24/7 basis. The volume of services will need to be amended over time to reflect the needs of UK Biocentre’s core business including the development of operations and future projects as well as the wind-down of operational hours once the COVID-19 testing service is no longer required or required to the same testing capacity.

UK Biobank (UKBB) and UK Biocentre (UKBC) require the supply of Liquid Nitrogen (LN). UKBB is tendering on behalf of itself and UKBC. UK Biobank (UKBB) is a major national health resource, and a registered charity in its own right, with the aim of improving the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of serious and life-threatening illnesses – including cancer, heart diseases, stroke, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, eye disorders, depression and forms of dementia. UK Biocentre (UKBC) was incorporated as a limited company on 4 May 2011 as a separate legal entity to its owner, UK Biobank, in order to utilise the skills and knowledge gained by UK Biobank in sample storage, processing, analysis and management. The primary service offered by UKBC to its customers is the collection, storage and assay of biological samples gathered from human volunteers. This Contract Notice relates to the award of two contracts: Lot 1 – Contract for the Supply of LN to UKBB’s site in Cheadle, Stockport, UK from 28 June 2021; Lot 2 – Contract for the Supply of LN to UKBC’s sites located in Milton Keynes and Oxford, UK from 28 June 2021. Tenders can be submitted for one or both of the Lots. This specification (provided as part of the procurement documents) sets out the requirements for the supply of LN.
