Plan and Deliver two FE Sector Leadership Programmes- FE Strategic Leadership & Preparing for CEO Programmes

The Education and Training Foundation has procured a high-end delivery partner to plan and deliver two professional and personal development programmes. One programme will be delivered to current Further Education sector (FE) Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), and Principals, and the other to current Deputy Principals and Deputy CEO’s who are ready take the next step in their career to CEO or Principal. The programmes will support delegates with their leadership development, and will be accompanied by an Alumni programme for the FESLP past participant alumnus. T Level Professional Development (TLPD) Leadership Residential

T Levels Professional Development (TLPD) has a range of activities, many of which are underway. One programme area which was delayed due to the Covid -19 pandemic was creation and delivery of a residential leadership programme. Aligned with the wider TLPD curriculum and CPD already devised, The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) commissioned the design and delivery of a distinct and separate high status offer for a limited number of participants from leadership roles within the FE sector, preparing them to lead delivery of T Levels in their organisation.

Practice Development Groups for teachers and trainers in the Further Education and Training Sector

Several contracts have been awarded to establish Practice Development Groups (PDGs) in nine regions across England. This new ETF programme was designed to promote practitioner-led, collaborative professional development across the Further Education and Training sector. PDGs consist of action learning sets of practitioners who work together on a short-term, small-scale project to improve an aspect of their teaching, learning and assessment over a four-month period. Each successful tenderer is running two rounds of PDG’s per academic year (October- January and January – April). The appointed tenderers act as hubs for 8-10 groups (4-5 per round) with group facilitators supporting participants in running action learning sets.

Professional development for mentors and coaches of practitioners in Further Education and Training

The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) awarded three contracts for the professional development for mentors and coaches of teachers and trainers in the Further Education and Training sector. Research indicates that mentoring is “perhaps the most effective, form of supporting the professional development of beginning teachers” (Hobson et al, 2004, p.209) yet, there is further evidence to suggest that it is more likely to be beneficial for beginning teachers when mentors have undertaken a programme of mentoring preparation or education (Hobson, 2016). The ETF champion an approach to mentoring and coaching of teachers in the Further Education and Training sector which is developmental and nurturing in nature; which is rooted in collaboration and support; and which is adaptable to the individual needs of the mentee/coachee. The award of these contracts has enabled the development of a high quality mentoring training in the sector to support teachers – including those in the important early years of their careers – to develop and progress. The underlying aim of this support is to improve the retention of new teachers entering the Further Education and Training sector.
