Description
Hampshire County Council (HCC) own and maintain Havant Footbridge which crosses the railway at Havant in Hampshire. Whilst the footbridge is not part of the station infrastructure it is positioned within Network Rail (NR) land, with main span supports on the station platforms and access ramps within the forecourt and on NR non-operational land. Some sections are also within Havant Borough Council (HBC) land The footbridge was built in 1947 and provides the main public route over the railway. It connects the Civic Centre Campus, Havant College, and nearby large housing area of Leigh Park in the north to Havant Town Centre, Bus Station and Havant Park in the south. Deterioration of the footbridge has accelerated over recent years, and it is no longer deemed cost effective or practical to continue repairing it. In addition, the footbridge no longer meets uses needs. Therefore, the footbridge is to be removed, and a new one provided which meets current standards and provides access for all.
