Description
Dotton Gauging Station on the River Otter is an important Environment Agency Asset for water resource and flood warning functions. Over recent years the river upstream of the gauging section has migrated East and is starting to outflank the straightened section on the lead in to the gauging station. The Devon County Council foot bridge has already been closed due to erosion. A Geomorphological Study and high level options appraisal has been carried out by the River Restoration Centre. This report will be made available to contractor. The outline solution has been decided of @working with natural processes', a managed retreat, with a hard line of defence built into the bank set back from the current bank. The existing bank is to be planted will suitable trees and other natural process measures implemented to redirect and slow the erosion. Details are in RRC report. We require the contractor to carry out optioneering/concept design phase. Some of this work can be subcontracted out to the River Restoration Centre
