Description

NHS Wales Shared Services (NWSSP) Supply Chain division are looking to implement a maintenance contract to cover all owned Manual Handling Equipment. It is important that maintenance and inspections are conducted to minimise the likelihood of failure in service through failure models, corrosion and wear.
Regulation 5 of PUWER 1998 requires work equipment to be maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and good repair. Where appropriate, to ensure good health and safety, maintenance should be carried out in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. The maintenance frequency should take into consideration any extended period of activity or inactivity and the environment (heat, cold, etc). Inspections must be carried out at suitable intervals between thorough examinations. Inspections must ensure that the good condition of equipment is maintained and that any deterioration can be detected and remedied in good time.
