Description

The Qualification System is for the Supply of Electric Drive Compressor Packages. The scope includes
the compressor unit, electric motor, ancillary systems, emergency shutdown system, and integration support. The
boundaries of the scope are clearly defined to ensure clarity in deliverables. Scope of Supply: 1. Provision of Electric
Drive Compressor package including: Electric motor; and Natural gas centrifugal compressor. 2. Provision of
all ancillary supporting systems including: Control system PLC 3. Provision of emergency shutdown system for
the package Scope Boundaries Included within the scope: • Compressor unit: The physical compressor itself (e.g.,
centrifugal, reciprocating, screw) and its associated components like the rotor, casing, and any internal seals. •
Electric motor: The motor driving the compressor, including its housing, stator, rotor, and any cooling systems.
• Variable Frequency Drive (VFD): If used, the VFD that controls the motor's speed and power. • Coupling: The
mechanical link between the motor and compressor. • Assistance with Integration of EMD to existing station systems
and compressors. • Local instrumentation and control system: Sensors, gauges, and control systems for monitoring
and controlling the compressor's operation. This includes pressure, temperature, flow rate, and vibration monitoring.
• Lubrication system: If applicable, the system that provides lubrication to the compressor and motor. • Cooling
system: If applicable, the system that removes heat generated by the compressor and motor. • Startup and shutdown
systems: Components and controls for safely starting and stopping the compressor. • Safety systems: Shutdown
systems and interlocks for preventing equipment damage and ensuring personnel safety. Excluded from the scope: •
Interconnecting station pipework systems • Compressor halls • Foundations

24/033 - Qualification System for the provision of Engineering, Procurement and Construction Services for South West Scotland Onshore System (SWSOS)

GNI and GNI (UK) are seeking experienced EPCS contractors to deliver a series of critical infrastructure upgrades as part of the SWSOS Decarbonisation Programme, a cornerstone of our commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050. This tender covers multiple work packages, including the design, procurement, construction, and integration of new electric drive compressor halls across operational sites in Scotland. The successful contractor will manage complex interfaces between new and existing assets, ensuring seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and control systems, while adhering to stringent cybersecurity and safety standards. This initiative represents a strategic investment in sustainable energy infrastructure and offers an opportunity to collaborate on projects of significant scale and impact within a multinational framework. SCOPE OF REQUIREMENTS: The scope of this tender encompasses overall project management and delivery across multiple work packages, including but not limited to the following: • Detailed Design Procurement o Procurement of detailed design for new compressor halls, based on the GNI suite of functional specifications. • Materials Procurement o Mechanical materials: high-pressure pipework, valves, and fittings. o Electrical materials: interconnecting cabling and junction boxes. o Instrumentation materials: transmitters and data cabling. Note: The second-stage tender process (CFC) will confirm the final requirements and clarify the full scope boundaries for the electric motor drive (EMD) package and the contractor's scope. • Construction Activities o Construction of new compressor halls. o Completion of all civil works, including excavations, foundations, structural steel, compressor foundations, and ancillary electrical buildings. o Installation of interconnecting pipework, electrical and control cabling, and junction boxes. • Integration and System Tie-ins o Integration of new electric drive compressors into the existing fleet of gas turbines. o Mechanical, electrical, and control system tie-ins at operational compressor stations across GNI UK sites in Scotland. • Security and Cybersecurity o Installation of security systems and implementation of cybersecurity controls in line with GNI specifications. • Testing and Commissioning o Full responsibility for FAT and SAT activities. o Commissioning and start-up of all new systems. Additional Scope Notes: • GNI may procure electric motor drive (EMD) packages separately. • GNI will manage all permitting and planning permissions. • GNI will separately upgrade incoming site electrical supply to power the new EMD packages. Indicative EPCS Scope Boundary: The EPCS scope is envisaged to cover all elements required for the delivery of an electric drive compressor station as outlined above. A more detailed scope is provided within the Appendices of the Qualification System Questionnaire documents.

Combined Heat and Power Engines

This procurement relates to the supply, commissioning and maintenance support of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) engines across multiple Thames Water wastewater treatment sites to maximise engine availability / performance. The scope includes the provision of new CHP units and associated services to support operational efficiency and energy recovery, as well as spare parts stock holding and technical support. Objectives and Expected Outcomes Effective utilisation of the biogas produced during the treatment of sludge, minimising flaring of gas, maximising electrical heat and power production • Securing Capacity: Ensure supply of CHP Engine requirement through AMP 8 and AMP 9 • Standardisation: Promote consistency across the CHP estate to reduce complexity and improve asset availability • Commercial Value: Leverage volume-based incentives and long-term value through strategic sourcing • Serviceability: Ensure availability of cost-effective spare parts and technical support • Efficiency & Sustainability: Support energy recovery and carbon reduction goals by securing high-performance, low-emission CHP solutions • Regulatory Changes: Ensure compliance with evolving regulatory requirements • Innovation: Accommodate benefits from innovation Procurement Approach: A competitive tender process will be undertaken to appoint a supplier capable of delivering the full scope. We anticipate awarding the contract to a single supplier but reserve the right to award to more than one supplier if it is deemed to deliver best value. Background: Thames Water (TW) currently operates 47 Combined Heat and Power Engines (CHP) across 24 wastewater treatment sites. These engines vary in age, size and output, and many are approaching the end of their lifecycle (typically 20 years). Anticipated Requirements: • Replacement of end-of-life engines during AMP 8 with estimated 10 - 16 new engines (Estimated range between 100kW - 1500kW electrical output) expected to be installed within AMP 8 alone. Further new engines will be required for AMP 9 • Specification: to be provided at PSQ • Support innovation: We are always looking for ways to improve what we do, and welcome innovative ideas/solutions • Compliance with evolving environmental regulations, especially around emissions to air (e.g. methane slip and possible carbon capture under the Industrial Emissions Directive) • Integration of AMP 9 requirements, to leverage further standardisation and volume-based discounts: The engines on an additional 7 wastewater treatment sites planned to be upgraded in AMP 9 What we anticipate purchasing TW is seeking to procure a comprehensive solution for CHP engines, which includes: • Supply, installation, and commissioning of new CHP engines across the TW estate • Ancillary components required for engine connection and operation • Provision of spare parts to support ongoing maintenance • Planned and reactive maintenance in line with the manufacturers O&M manual • Technical support to ensure safe and efficient operation through the lifecycle of the asset The procurement will cover both replacement of end-of-life engines and new installations to meet growing demand. The current aim is to award a single-source agreement to enable standardisation, improve serviceability, and reduce complexity across the estate. Please note that that deadline for asking for access to the PSQ & submitting of the PSQ is 28th November 2025, at 10 am.
