Description

The GDC desire to undertake research that will capture public voice and are evidence-informed, with the aim of understanding the public’s demand for, experiences of, views about and their confidence in dental care, and to understand:
a.What factors are affecting the supply and demand of dental services and what their impact is on the availability of and access to dental care.
b.What the public’s experiences and views tell us about their confidence, safety, demand for services and future intentions.
The overarching aim of the research with the public is to maintain and build on public voice in the evidence that informs GDC activity, the objectives of the research are for the public research are:
- To understand the factors that affect public safety and confidence in the dental industry;
- To understand the factors that affect the public’s choices about their dental health (frequency and type of use);
- To understand the factors that affect the public’s access to services that they need;
- To explore the public’s confidence in the sector, including regulation
- To, where possible and useful, continue to measure change over time, comparing with our three previous research sweeps with the public;

4821/JN/25 - Mobile Clinic Unit Partner for Supporting Community Based Prostate Cancer Screening

The purpose of this procurement exercise is to secure a vehicle based mobile clinic unit partner to support the delivery of Work Package 2 (WP2) within the IMProVE study, with a focus on improving equitable access to prostate cancer screening. The IMProVE study's full title is "Prostate cancer screening using a risk adapted PSA/image-based approach: Pilot study for a Yorkshire wide comparison with Standard care". The study is funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research and is being run in collaboration with Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and the University of Sheffield (study sponsor). WP2 pilots community-based prostate cancer screening in Leeds and Sheffield, combining targeted invitations and community outreach to recruit eligible men for PSA blood testing and optional saliva sampling via vehicle based mobile clinic units. Participants are randomised to either standard NHS care or an image-based pathway, with follow-up diagnostics and referrals managed within the NHS. It is anticipated that 45,000 men will be invited to take part in screening, with uptake estimated to be 4,500 men (10%). This is an open exercise. The ITT can be downloaded by registering and expressing your interest on the University`s e-tendering system https://in-tendhost.co.uk/sheffield If you have any questions or comments in relation to this tender they must be submitted via the In-tend system, this can be accessed at https://in-tendhost.co.uk/sheffield Completed tenders must be returned through the same e-tendering system. Developing an Approach to Groundwater Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessment for PFAS

This project will commission a Rapid Evidence Assessment (REA) of published literature to identify evidence-backed robust physio-chemical data sources for 20 per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) that could be used as inputs into a groundwater detailed quantitative risk assessment (DQRA) modelling software (e.g. ConSim and RTM). PFAS are a broad group of synthetic fluorinated chemicals which are persistent in the environment. Some are bio-accumulative and toxic, and/or highly mobile. PFAS are used in a wide variety of consumer products and industrial applications because of their unique chemical and physical properties, including oil, water and stain repellence, temperature and chemical resistance, and surfactant properties. Due to their widespread historical and current use, PFAS are prevalent within the water environment because of the direct and indirect pathways into groundwater and surface water from various applications and activities. The need for a consistent approach to assessing the risk of PFAS compounds to groundwater receptors is growing substantially due to increasing year on year attention to PFAS as an emerging contaminant, from the public, media, regulators, and industry. It is becoming more vital that we, as regulators, and industry, are able to understand the risks associated with PFAS, and can provide robust and consistent regulation in this emerging field. Alongside the REA, there is a requirement to produce a summary table of the required physio-chemical parameters, the data sources, and the justification for the inclusion of the data for the 20 PFAS. This REA and data summary table will be used to develop guidance on how to undertake a DQRA for PFAS contaminated groundwater.
