Description

The M3 and Junction 9 (located in Winchester) connects South Hampshire with London, the Midlands and the North.

Traffic levels are heavy at junction 9 between the M3 and A34, resulting in lengthy queues on the northbound off-slip of the M3 and A272 Spitfire Link, affecting journey times and road safety.

The proposal is to make changes to Junction 9 so it has free flowing links between the M3 and A34 in both directions.

The construction would include for the junction to be widened and build two new gyratory bridges allowing the M3 to increase from 3 lanes to 4 lanes. Also, the works would improve NMU facilities in and
around the junction for both pedestrians and cyclists.

Other construction works include but not limited to
the following:
-2no. underpasses for the M3 mainline and A34 Northbound
-1no. pedestrian subway
-9no. MS4s, 1no. long span and 1no. portal gantries
-Footbridge over the River Itchen
-6no. locations for sheet piling locations and 1no. for blockwork retaining wall
-Site wide motorway communications installation
-Site wide vehicle restraint barrier installation

The scope of the works required are for the delivery, Installation, material provision and testing of the Sprayed Concrete for the underpasses on the M3J9 Improvement Scheme.
