This business case was previously approved in 2024/25 but was paused due to moratorium of spend. Budget has been granted for FY 2025/26 and i was advised to raise a new Business case - previous case reference BC-25369. Budget has been granted for FY 2025/26. The National Genomics Education Programme (GEP) team is responsible for providing and delivering genomics education and training for the entire NHS Workforce, both clinical and non-clinical. Mainstreaming genomics involves the routine integration of genomic testing into clinical care, across the healthcare specialities and professions to inform patient diagnosis and management. However many of the healthcare workers who do not currently work within specialist genomics, do not have the fundamental subject knowledge, understanding and confidence that would enable them to integrate genomics into their service. The GEP is looking to award a contract/s to one or more HEIs to assemble a team with senior pedagogic leadership, research co-ordinators and clerical staff to develop and deliver CPD courses on pedagogic principles, programmes, CPD and research opportunities in collaboration with the GEP. As part of a structured and multi-tiered approach to providing genomic education, the GEP is proposing to establish a Genomics Pedagogy scheme (GPeds). The purpose of the scheme is to promote and facilitate genomics pedagogic professional development and research.
The scheme will be based on a collaboration between GEP, the Genomic Training Academy (GTAC) and an/several Higher Education Institute/s (HEIs). GPeds will be available to genomic educators within the Genomic Medicine Service (GMS) encompassing the seven regional Genomic Medicine Service Alliances (GMSA) and seven Genomic Laboratory Hubs (GLHs).
