“What Good Looks Like” guidance development and implementation – Mental Health Act (MHA) s117

To develop “What Good Looks Like” guidance incorporating training resources on MHA s117 after-care assessment, planning and review and the interface with other legislation and frameworks, including statutory guidance on discharge from mental health inpatient settings, the Care Act, the Mental Capacity Act and the NHS Continuing Healthcare framework. This should include clear guidance on roles and responsibilities of the council, ICB and NHS Trusts. The guidance will be focused on Section 117 of the Mental Health Act, highlighting how Adult Social Care (ASC) services can work collaboratively with Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) to deliver high-quality, holistic aftercare. It will provide a clear framework for ASC services to strengthen joint planning, commissioning, and delivery arrangements with ICBs, ensuring individuals discharged from hospital under the Mental Health Act receive person-centred, coordinated support that promotes recovery, independence, and long-term wellbeing’. A launch event (in the form of a webinar) will be arranged once the guidance is complete. Other learning events may be held to support the use of the training resources (subject to time availability).
