Description

The Greenhouse Gas Inventory Working Group was commissioned by the UKBCEP in 2024 to build on existing work to inform the UK's approach for considering inclusion of coastal wetlands in the UK GHG Inventory.
The working group has been using the report 'Defining saltmarsh and the roadmap
for its potential inclusion in the Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) Inventory', led by the UKCEH, to determine its workplan.
The working group is chaired by Cefas and relies on the expertise brought to the group by its members. The group currently meets every 6 weeks with at least one in-person meeting each year.
Cefas are looking to secure the time of experts from the UKCEH to attend and contribute towards working group meetings and activities throughout the year. This will include attendance at both online and in-person meetings, where feasible and input into workplan preparation as well as ad-hoc correspondence between meetings, where relevant.

Appraisal of Carbon Negative Challenge Fund Capital Applications

The CNCF is looking to unlock key challenges in reaching net zero by 2034 and carbon negative by 2040. The programme will build on the work achieved through Y&NY's £7m Net Zero Fund, and tackle particularly challenging areas to decarbonise and accelerate the implementation of York and North Yorkshire's "Routemap to Carbon Negative". The CNCF "Call for Projects" seeks to fund projects that will pilot future approaches to decarbonisation and open pathways for the region to reach carbon negative by 2040. The Fund seeks to support the development and delivery of projects that can unlock carbon savings, increase carbon sequestration, support climate adaptation and be innovative in nature; for example, trialling new approaches or technology, serving as a "demonstrator" project that others can be replicated, or projects that will enable systems change across the region. It is concluded that this is the most impactful way the fund can deliver for the region's ambition to reach carbon negative.
