Description

This advert is intended to notify potential suppliers of the tender for the A435 Cycleway Section 2.2. These works are located on the A435 Evesham Road between the Racecourse Roundabout (approx. post code GL50 4QB) and 60m north of the GWSR Bridge (approx. post code GL50 4SH).

This scheme is part of a wider strategic scheme to boost active travel provision within the county, through the creation of the Gloucestershire Cycle Spine. The overall scheme will implement a continuous cycleway for cyclists of all ages and abilities between the main hubs of Bishops Cleeve, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Haresfield and Stroud. 

The client is looking for a Principal Contractor (PC) to deliver the construction phase of this scheme.

Summary of Construction Phase key deliverables are as follows:
Provide suitable Traffic Management during the construction works.
Pedestrian access during the construction works.
Utility diversion works (arranged by GCC for the PC to liaise/accommodate).
New drainage works and tie-in to existing.
A mixture of Highway, segregated footway / cycleway track and new shared use path construction.
Junction and carriageway realignments. 
Structural works to the GWSR bridge.
Construction of retaining structures in the form of gabion wall and crib wall.
Streetlighting column installation and relocation.

The proposed procurement route will be a single stage (Open Procedure) using the NEC4 ECC form of Contract, Option A Priced Contract with Activity Schedule.

Birnbeck Pier Reinstatement works

North Somerset Council is procuring works to restore the Birnbeck Pier Structure, connecting the mainland to the Birnbeck Island. This structure is Listed Grade II*. This is specialist work in a complex marine environment so the prospective contractors will be required to have extensive experience and expertise working in the marine environment and of heritage structures. The work in scope for this tender is summarised as follows: • safe dismantling of existing superstructure, • repairs to the 15no. existing trestles/ legs, inc new trestle bracing, • new primary trusses/ girders, new transverse deck beams and bracing, new timber deck, new bench seating and guard rails, • 14no. cantilevered bays with beams, deck, bench seating and railing to suit, • new service tray and ducts to underside of deck, between services chambers in deck and terminating in chambers within the abutments at either end of pier, • reconstruction works to abutments, • Pier lighting. As the project is entirely funded by grants, the budget is capped. Generally, we would not award a contract to a supplier if the annual value of the contract was more than 50% of the supplier's turnover due to the significant outlay on plant and materials.
