Description

The University of Birmingham's Occupational Health team (OH) provides occupational health advice to all University employees, work-relevant requirements for students (particularly research Post-grad courses) and a couple of small business enterprises with links to the University. The service is paper-light, utilising OPAS G2 software from Civica to support all record-keeping and reporting.  The service commissions occupational medical services from appropriately qualified occupational physicians engaged on a sessional basis to meet customer demand.  Since January 2021 there has been a contracted OH Physician from an external Occupational Health Provider, the University is now re-tendering for this contract following a review of the needs of the service.

An additional service will also be required from the provider to supply suitably matched Occupational Health Nurses at short notice when required. 
These services are required to continue to support the University to meet its statutory responsibilities under Health & Safety legislation and our aspirations for the Occupational Health Service to ensure that our Occupational Health offer continues to be effective and efficient in providing timely competent advice and services.

Autism Support Service

Autism is one of the fastest-growing areas of need in Birmingham. There are over 4,000 school-aged children with an autism diagnosis across the city, which is a higher prevalence than national averages, indicating a significant local need. In 2022 autism had increased by 25% over three years. Throughout the UK autism prevalence in children is estimated at 1–3% of the population, with recent studies suggesting 1 in 36 children aged eight years have an autism diagnosis. The commissioned service will provide a joint working model within the Trust Early Help Service. The Early Help service consists of one Targeted Family Help team and a Voluntary sector team in each of the 10 districts across Birmingham and the commissioned service will also need to align with The Family Hub offer. The commissioned service will provide direct interventions to children and young people with autism and their families. The specialist interventions will be specifically related to support associated with the child or young person’s autism. The brief will also include upskilling practitioners within the Early Help service, offering advice, guidance and training on autism enabling practitioners to respond effectively to families, this will include providing shadowing opportunities for recently trained staff from the partnerships. The duration of the contract will be for one year, with the option to extend for up to two years (1 + 1 + 1), commencing on 1st April 2026. The contract will be reviewed on an annual basis with a break clause after March 2027, and each subsequent year; with the continuation of the contract based on funding availability and performance. Young Persons Homelessness Pathfinder

The GMCA will be looking to reprocure The Greater Manchester young persons Homelessness prevention service. The Greater Manchester (GM) Young Persons Homelessness Prevention Service is a flexible, person-centred service designed to prevent homelessness for young people between the ages of 18-25. This service builds on the learning of the Young Persons Homelessness Prevention Pathfinder service which had previously been commissioned to provide homelessness prevention support for young people across GM between 2022 - 2026. The new service model is expected to be outcomes based, evidence-informed, and highly personalised, enabling more flexible and responsive primary prevention focused support for young people at risk of homelessness. It will intervene for individuals who are at risk of their first instance of homelessness in the next 6 months at point of access and who are lacking the support that would enable them to prevent their situation worsening. The service also aligns heavily to priorities included as part of the Greater Manchester Strategy 2025 - 2035, working towards ensuring healthy homes for all and everyday support in every neighbourhood.
