Description

Defra requires Cefas to provide scientific advice on the management of priority recreational marine fisheries, including development and evaluation of regional, national proposals, and technical conservation measures that informs policy and ensures a sustainable sector within the context of the protection of the marine environment.
Cefas require the Supplier to deliver a survey to gather data on the estimates of catches and expenditure by recreational sea fishers across England and Wales in 2025 and 2026. The two surveys should build on the previous surveys already completed to ensure continuity - reports from this previous work can be viewed here on gov.uk.
The following survey elements are needed:
1.1. Identification of a representative sample of people who fish for recreation in the sea and who are willing to keep catch diaries throughout 2025 and 2026, using an appropriate, cost-effective method.
1.2. A panel survey involving the completion of electronic catch diaries and expenditure throughout 2025 and 2026 by a sample of people from the list of recreational sea fishers identified in step (4.1), and the archiving and analysis of data reported.
