DLSITT1069 - Supply of I17 White Beam Slits for Diamond Light Source

Located on the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, Diamond Light Source (DLS) is a leading-edge facility for science, engineering and innovation. Diamond allows researchers from academia and industry to investigate the structure and behaviour of the world around us at the atomic and molecular level. To continue delivering the world changing science that Diamond enables, the facility is being upgraded to Diamond-II, a coordinated programme of development that combines a major machine upgrade with new instruments and complementary improvements to optics, detectors, sample environment and delivery capabilities, and computing, as well as integrated and correlative methods. This will be transformative in speed and spatial resolution and will offer users streamlined access to enhanced instruments for life and physical sciences. The scope of the contract is for the design, supply of materials, manufacture, assembly, test and delivery of two White Beam Slit systems (S1 and S2) for the Diamond-II new flagship beamline I17. The WBSs will be used for defining the size and divergence of the beam, controlling the heat load on downstream optics, and providing diagnostic information about the beam. Each system includes the slit blades and their actuators, cooling system, vacuum vessel, support and manual positioning system. The I17 beamline will be a soft x-ray beamline operating in the energy range from 250 eV to 3.5 keV. The beamline will include a series of optical components to focus the beam at the exit slits to which will provide a secondary source for sample illumination. The purpose of the white beam slits is to define the size and power of the beam impinging on mirror M1, to define the dimensions of the accepted beam after deflection from M1, and to provide the ability to tune between flux and transverse coherence.
