Description
The Authority has a requirement for the provision of Clinical Waste Management Services, including but not limited to the safe collection of clinical waste from central waste disposal locations, transportation and clinical waste disposal. Service provision will be for clinical and offensive waste including the option of reusable sharps (including solid and organic liquid low level radioactive waste). The Authority will require as a minimum that the Supplier provides a service that is compliant with all current and future legislation, (e.g. Health Technical Memorandum 07-01 - Safe Management of Healthcare Waste, HTM 07 Environment & Sustainability), relevant to the waste streams the Supplier is bidding on and demonstrate best practice throughout its service delivery. The Supplier will be required to provide a high quality and comprehensive service in a timely and responsive way to meet the demands of our busy hospital sites, based in central London and beyond. The duration of the contract is five (5) years with an option to extend for a further two (2) years. The appointed supplier will be expected to deliver the goods and/or provide services at the customer organisation's locations across Acute sites, Community sites and Essentia commercial sites. The following services will be undertaken on behalf of the Authority: - The collection and transportation of waste from designated waste storage compounds as listed in the definition of waste. - The off-site disposal through a registered licensee of all types of waste as defined in the definition of waste. - The provision of all receptacles to enable waste to be stored, collected and transported as detailed in the commercial schedule. - The provision of compactors, skips, containers where applicable should be maintained and cleaned and disinfected where possible to a standard that is approved by the Contracting Authority. - All compactors, skips and containers should be of the closed aperture variety to ensure that items contained within cannot be accessed or affected by weather conditions. - The provision of all equipment and materials to carry out the duties of the detailed specification. Under no circumstances should NHS cages be used for the collection or transportation of waste.
