Description

The proposed scheme is to convert the existing deck chair store into a beach wheelchair store, and to construct a 4050mm x 4200mm (external) single storey pitched roof extension to create a beach hub facility.  The beach hub facility will be occupied by beach rangers who will administer the beach wheelchairs, and manage the information point and first aid point.  It will also be used a base and shelter and store for other groups such as the voluntary litter pickers. 
 
Services to be provided to the buildings will be electricity, data and hot and cold water fed from St Annes Pier, but no foul drainage. 
 
The project will also smooth out the steep section of ramp and produce a more compliant ramp, landing and handrail, as well as eliminating trip hazards inherent in the displaced and cracked ramps.  This will involve breaking up and renewing the existing concrete apron slabs. 
 
It will also create a visually pleasing "flagship" beach hub building, with gablets and brightly painted metal cladding to resemble beach huts together with exposed beach pebble aggregate ramps in keeping with the existing finishes and traditional cast iron bollards and associated handrails, and refurbished brick walls.

Medmerry Islands Restoration

The primary aim of this project is to restore 0.8ha of shingle on a series of four islands within our Medmerry nature reserve by mechanical clearance and redepositing the top 20cm of shingle to form fresh, bare substrate. This will be accompanied by the cutting of a buffer layer of vegetation to ground level next to the shingle, the cutting of patches in a further area beyond this, and installation of removable fence posts for a seasonal predator exclusion fence. Amphibious plant machinery will most likely be needed for access. Full details can be found on the attached documents. This project is being funded and delivered as part of the Solent Seascape Project, an ambitious 5 year project that aims to deliver significant seascape scale nature restoration within the Solent. Medmerry Islands Restoration

The Medmerry nature reserve was created just over a decade ago and covers a large area of coastal realignment, surrounded by farmland, lagoons and supporting habitat. At its centre are four islands created during the ground work phase of the realignment project (before the coastal breach was carried out). These islands were topped with shingle in crescents on their western edge with the purpose of providing habitat for breeding seabirds and shorebirds. These are birds that nest on the ground, laying their eggs directly into small bowl shape that they create on bare shingle or sand. In the first two years after creation, the islands saw interest from breeding little terns (including unconfirmed breeding), Ringed Plover and Oystercatcher. Since this point however, vegetation has steadily increased on the bare shingle until the point of it being unusable for breeding by the designated seabird and shorebird species. As a result, by 2023, only a single pair of Oystercatcher nested on these islands. The RSPB are now in a position via the Solent Seascape Project to restore these areas to bare substrate and set the conditions for a large seabird colony to form. Our aim would see the site utilised by early succession species first (Ringed Plover, Little Tern, Oystercatcher) with the conditions being created for colonisation by Black-headed Gulls, Sandwich Tern and Common Tern. Civil Engineering Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) Scotland - projects up to 5 million GBP

The Scottish Ministers have been working with internal and external stakeholders on the development of a Scottish collaborative Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) for Civil Engineering projects up to 5 million GBP for use across the Scottish public sector. To be considered, economic operators are required to complete the Single Procurement Document (SPD) including the Financial Standing Workbook, the Technical and Professional Ability Workbook (including Core Terms Acceptance and SOC Check) and the Environmental Management and Climate Change Plan Form in accordance with the Contract Notice and the accompanying Instructions document. Economic operators will be evaluated in accordance with the Public Contracts Regulations (Scotland) 2015, on the basis of the information provided within their application. A Price Quality Ratio (PQR) of 30% Price and 70% Quality (with a range of +/-20%) will be undertaken for all calls for competition under this DPS.
