Description
The project is the construction of a major new public space which allows for flexible events and allows for arts, culture, enterprise and innovation within the site. The Contractor shall note the River Sheaf crosses the Site in a culvert. The site previously housed Sheffield Castle which was demolished in 1648 and was the home to Castle Markets which was subsequently demolished in 2015 with the site being left in its current condition. There are 3Nr Grade II listed structures on the Site. - Remnants of the Former Castle are contained in the 'Upper Ruins Chamber' which is located on the top plateau level to the North of the site - The 'Lower Ruins Chamber' located to the south adjacent to the Market Tavern Building, contains remnants of the Castle Gatehouse within a reinforced concrete chamber. Further remnants are also present beyond the chamber walls. - A further listed structure in the Southwest corner of the raised plateau area is currently buried. The project shall be a 2 Stage Tender utilising the NEC 3 Form of Contract Option A.
