Description

the MMO is leading on the delivery of several new Fisheries Management Plans including
the Channel demersal non quota species. With this, we are trialling innovative ways of
designing and implementing fisheries management within the English context. Social
evidence gaps have been identified as part of this process. This has included the social and
economic evidence base we currently draw on when we are making management
decisions. One such concern pivots on our understanding (or lack of) of what the benefits
are that local commercial fishing bring to their local communities (and immediate family
networks). Through this project, we wish to gain a better understanding of the local social
and economic importance of local fisheries endeavours and the benefits these fisheries
bring to both fishers targeting this species and their associated communities.
