Description

In June 2018, AHDB was successful in applying for grant funding to undertake a five-year Dairy Improvement Programme (DIP) which is made possible through the Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Union. One of the strategic projects delivered through the Programme is HerdAdvance.

HerdAdvance
The project aim is to pilot how improving disease control awareness and pre-emptive animal health and welfare management on Welsh dairy farms can improve on-farm efficiencies and profitability and ensure that businesses realise their full potential in the market place. A new whole farm holistic approach to disease prevention will be applied taking into consideration other influential factors such as nutrition, genetics and
the suitability of buildings.

The project will ensure that Animal health plans become an active on-farm management tool aimed at promoting the health and welfare of farm animals by setting out disease prevention, detection and management procedures. The aim is to recruit up to 500 farmers to participate in HerdAdvance.

Services Required
AHDB requires a supplier who can review a maximum of 10% of the Animal Health Plans reviewed, the HerdAdvance Priorities and Recommendations Forms and the HerdAdvance Action Plans for Quality Assurance purposes. The supplier will need to check that the Animal Health Plans being assessed are fit for purpose i.e. as a minimum it complies with the requirements of Red Tractor and FAWL. The supplier will also need to assess the HerdAdvance Priorities and Recommendations Forms and HerdAdvance Action Plans ensuring that the priorities identified are in line with the Animal Health Plan and that the recommendations and advice given is satisfactory.

The successful supplier will need to provide feedback on each case via a written report highlighting any areas of particular strengths and outlining any issues that need to be addressed.
