AeroSpace Cornwall is a programme which promotes research, development and innovation (RD&I), funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Cornwall Council. 

The programme, which runs from December 2019 to December 2022, will support at least sixty businesses through grants and specialist business support whilst leveraging £1,375,639 of match funding from the private sector. It aims to;

•	Increase the performance and competitiveness of local enterprises, create highly skilled jobs and launch new products into the marketplace

•	Develop the 'innovation ecosystem' for the space and aerospace clusters by incentivising local businesses to collaborate with other businesses and research institutions to accelerate their innovation. 

•	Increase the value and capability of the local space and aerospace clusters and secure ongoing investment in them. 

AeroSpace Cornwall also supports inward investors by awarding soft landing packages and investment incentives, with the aim of encouraging collaboration with other businesses across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. 

AeroSpace Cornwall works with manufacturing and engineering businesses who are, or aspire to be, part of the space / aerospace supply chains and digital businesses such as those developing software applications in the satellite communications, earth observation, navigation and meteorology areas.

Cornwall Development Company is seeking to commission contractors to objectively assess current and future demand for assembly, integration and test facilities at the Cornwall Airport Newquay site and within a 5 miles radius of this site.  

The contractors must be able to demonstrate adequate cluster knowledge, industrial expertise, market knowledge and be able to leverage the appropriate network to carry out the following market research activities; 

-	Perform a broad market analysis of a potential user base

-	Analyse the needs of potential customers who would use such facilities

-	Perform competition analysis and identify the USPs of AIT facilities in Cornwall compared to facilities elsewhere

The individual or organisation will be expected to identify potential users and articulate their assembly, integration and testing needs in order to; 

-	Quantify the economic benefits to Cornwall and the local supply chain, based on high level costing information and potential income streams gathered from interviews 

-	Propose a Business Model for the AIT facilities, including:

•	Defining the Value Proposition
•	Recommending who could manage the AIT facilities, and how this would be managed, including the key partners that would be required to support the development of facilities
•	Recommending potential services that the facilities would need to offer, and any equipment required

Built Environment Adaptation & Resilience (BEAR)

DESNZ is seeking to procure a supplier(s) to deliver a research programme to build the policy-relevant evidence base for adaptation action in the built environment to enable a building stock and built environment more resilient to future climate hazards. It will include research on:  Adaptation metrics and indicators for the built environment Quantifying effectiveness of adaptation retrofits for buildings Identify opportunities to embed resilience in our built environment while we decarbonise. Mapping out adaptation pathways for the built environment. Understanding role of nature-based and urban planning solutions. Learning from international best practice to inform UK evidence and policy design. The programme will focus on building the required evidence base, translating existing evidence alongside new analysis and data collection and modelling to support adaptation action in the built environment. A knowledge transfer and integration work package will provide agile policy support, and facilitate co-development of outputs. The programme will require expertise on climate risk and adaptation in the built environment, and should take a multi-disciplinary approach to consider implications for energy, built environment, public health, and economic factors. Methods could include literature reviews, quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, field trial design and analysis, building simulation, spatial analysis, predictive scenario modelling, and knowledge integration and dissemination. DESNZ anticipates a consortium of suppliers will be needed to cover the breadth of skills required, which may include professional expertise in building services engineering, civil engineering architecture, surveying, planning, public health, economics, climate science, behavioural science, data science, and GIS. Outputs will likely include reports, data and models, interactive decision support tools, case studies, teach-ins, and on-call briefings and scientific support. Key outputs will be published on gov.uk. The research and outputs will be co-designed with policy focal points to ensure policy relevance and will have built-in flexibility to respond to emerging policy needs.

The recently published Heat in Buildings strategy by the Scottish Government sets out a pathway to zero emissions buildings by 2045, Reducing emissions from non-domestic buildings remains a key focus for the Scottish Government and the strategy covers support for SME’s and non-domestic buildings particularly encouraging SME’s to take action and install energy improvement measures through an integrated package of advice, technical and financial support. Business Energy Scotland (BES) provides free and impartial support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Scotland to encourage the installation of energy efficiency, clean heating and other renewable technologies to realise the long-term benefits of carbon and cost savings. BES assists and supports SMEs with relevant, tailored, high-quality advice, acting as a catalyst and enabler of change towards a net zero Scotland. Business Energy Scotland provides free advice and support to Scottish SMEs to save energy, carbon and money. It helps SMEs to improve energy efficiency and decarbonise heating in their premises to realise cost savings, protect profits and safeguard jobs. Since its launch in April 2023, BES has matured into a resilient, high-performing and impactful service that is responsive to the needs of SMEs in Scotland. The service provides a range of in-depth and light support to SMEs based in Scotland and as acts as a gateway service for the Scottish Government’s SME loan and grant scheme (SME loan scheme), whilst also facilitating SMEs to access other funding opportunities from local authorities and regional funding providers. The Scottish Government’s non-domestic advice service Business Energy Scotland (BES) sits alongside the current domestic advice service Home Energy Scotland (HES), creating a single point of initial contact for energy advice, both domestic and non-domestic. These records help to tell the story of the shared memories and lived histories of places in England.
