Description

Tenders are invited to receive and maintain at a Kennels, stray dogs temporarily in the care of the Council. 
 
Sections 149 and 150 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Environmental Protection (Stray Dogs) Regulations 1992 set out the provisions and duties of local authorities for seizing and dealing with stray dogs.

Following seizure, the dog should be transferred to a reception centre as soon as is practicable, if no owner can be found immediately and the dog does not need veterinary treatment. The reception centre accepting the stray dogs should be licensed under the relevant legislation and comply with the relevant guidance in England12 and Wales13 as well as comply with the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

In 2021/22, 35 stray dogs were taken to the Council's current Stray dog reception centre.

The Client wishes to procure a 2 year with an optional extension period of an additional one plus one year to be determined by the client (a maximum contract period of 4 years including the optional extension period), for the Badger Found Dead and any other Wildlife Species Contract. The value of the Contract is expected within the range of £750,000-£880,000 excluding VAT for the entire 4 year period. This data and analysis will provide vital information on the prevalence of (M bovis) infection in badgers and on genotypes present. The results of the contract will be used to investigate the relationship between (M.bovis) infection in badgers and cattle and will assist in the formulation of policy at both local and national levels. It will also add to epidemiological reporting and provide evidence to case vets.
