HFEA Satellite Assisted Conception Services at Croydon ACU

The Croydon Assisted Conception Unit (ACU) provides a comprehensive assisted reproduction treatment service to the local population including NHS funded treatment for South West London and Surrey ICBs, as well as to private patients that choose to self fund their treatment. The scope of the project is to retender for a supplier of HFEA licenced laboratory activities to facilitate the provision of assisted reproduction treatments at Croydon Hospital ACU and maintain our ability to function as a successful Satelite Centre. Satellite is a smaller clinic affiliated with a larger main fertility centre, it offers a range of services including initial consultations, scans and blood tests, to make fertility care more accessible to patients in various locations. The main clinic typically handles more complex procedures like egg collection and embryo transfer. Croydon ACU performs approximately 170 fresh and 160 frozen treatment cycles per annum. Croydon ACU clinical staff consult with the patient, recommend treatment type, prescribe medications and schedule treatment as well as monitoring response to medications and progress through cycles prior to egg collection and frozen embryo transfer. Egg collections presently performed at exisiting provider. Care of the patient returns to Croydon ACU following embryo transfer or intra-uterine insemination. The appointment of a laboratory provider must ensure a high quality and safe service for Croydon ACU patients, maintaining clinical pregnancy rates and live birth rates above the national average, and allowing for the provision of all other related HFEA licenced activities such as the freezing and storage of samples obtained by surgical sperm retrieval and the use of donor gametes in treatment. The provider must allow Croydon ACU to operate within our own policies in regards to treatment protocols outwith of the laboratory service providers own policies and procedures but always within the scope of the HFEA Act and Code of Practice.
