Description
Our work in English and School Education (ESE) is driven by the British Council purpose of building trust and understanding between the people of the UK and other countries. We work with governments, ministries of education, teaching professionals, students and non-government educational organisations across the globe to improve the quality of English teaching, learning and assessment in their countries. Our work empowers young people to gain the skills, confidence and connections they are looking for to realise their potential and to participate in strong and inclusive communities. Find more information about our work, impact areas and global programmes here. In order to deliver our work globally, the British Council needs to ensure it has a fit-for-purpose learning management system (LMS). This LMS will support English and School Education activity in regions and countries to enable the delivery of high-quality English language teacher development programmes. The LMS will be used to deliver high-quality fully online or blended courses which will help the organisation achieve its aspiration of supporting education systems to improve the teaching and learning of English effectively, affordably and at scale. The LMS will support the delivery of different models of teacher development. The English and School Education EdTech Hub manages a global Learning Management System (LMS), which is used to deliver to programmatic activity in regions and countries globally. ESE is seeking an LMS that is tailored for three specific types of user engagement: 1. Massive Open Online Course (MOOC): This is open Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for individual teachers. The audience are teachers of English globally, currently over 120,000 accounts, up to 6,500 active users per month. This is part of our English Connects global programme. 2. Small Private Online Course (SPOC): This is Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for closed groups of teachers participating in local or regional projects across the network. The audience are teachers of English in countries or regions, currently up to 3,000 active users per month. This is part of our School Systems global programme (formerly English in Education). 3. Community of Practice (CoP): These are sustainable online communities of practice. The audience are teachers of English in the Wider Europe region, currently up to 5,000 accounts. This is part of our School Systems and Empowerment global programmes.
